Office of Urban Terrains Lab  | 어반터레인즈

OUTL is a multidisciplinary practice and research lab focusing on diverse scales of architectural, landscape and urbanism. We work in-between the diverse aspects of the built environment, whether inside or outside, temporary or permanent, object or field, partial or whole, to create urban terrains through generative strategies. We believe that spaces do not exist as absolute forms but are active/passive agencies of reflexive urban systems. We operate across disciplines to find immanent and emergent opportunities. We investigate and create strategies of spatial production that test conditions of normalcy and exception. OUTL actively engages the urban terrain as sites of investigation and critical processes of spatial agency.

Recent works include the Hoek Place Mixed Use Project in Brooklyn NY, Suseo 1 Public Housing Urban Regeneration Project in Seuseo Seoul, Dasan New City Symbolic Structure Design for Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation, Maehyangli Ecological Peace Park for the City of Hwasung, and Residential Design in the City of Sejong. OUTL was awarded Special Jury Prize for the 2016 Nodeul Island International Competition, Finalist for the New Rochelle Waterfront Development in 2013, Honorary Mention for the 2012 Athens Urban Regeneration International Competition and Third Place for the 2011 Urban Landscape Master Plan International Competition for Kyiv, Ukraine.

Yehre Suh | 서예례 , Principal

Yehre Suh is a Registered Architect in New York and New Jersey, USA and is a LEED AP BD+C accredited professional.

She was one of three participating Architects at the 2023 Venice Biennale at the Korean Pavilion with the project <Ruin as Future, Future as Ruin>, and was also a participating artist for the 2014 Venice Biennale Korean Pavilion’s <Crow’s Eye View: The Korean Peninsula> exhibition which won the Golden Lion award. She also took part as a participating artist for the 2017 Seoul International Biennale of Architecture and Urbansim with Nabi Art Center.

She was awarded the Graham Foundation Grant in 2008, Cornell Arts Council Grant in 2009, 2010, Rotch Foundation Grant in 2012, the ARKO Grant for Criticism in the Arts, and the SNU Promising Pioneer Research Grant in 2015-18. 

She was the Assistant Professor of Urban Design at Seoul National University Graduate School of Environmental Studies in 2014-19. She was also a member of the City of Seoul Architecture Policy Committee in 2016-18 and the Urbanism Curator at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, 2015-16. She has also taught at Cornell University, Barnard College/Columbia University, City College of New York and the Pratt Institute.

She received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Industrial Design from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea and her Masters in Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
